How can I find my passion?

tabea-kraska-coaching-passion

What’s my passion? What do I love doing? What am I good at? How can I find my passion in life?

Think back for a minute when you were a child or teenager. What dreams did you have? What desires did you have, what wishes? Did you want to be a teacher, a doctor, an artist, a nurse, a craftsman, a fireman, a ………..?

Maybe you can’t remember? Then ask someone who grew up with you and knows you well. What did you like doing or what were you good at?

Can you imagine what my dream was when I was a child?

At a young age I was very impressed with the lady at the shop selling different kind of meats and sausages. When my mum went shopping she sometimes bought “Gelbwurst” (a special German cold meat “cut up” which you put on your bread).

I loved standing besides my mum looking at the lady how she cut the meat and how she weighed it and put it into the bag. And most of the time she gave me a little piece of “Gelbwurst” to eat. That was the highlight of the shopping experience and I wanted to become a “Wurstverkäufer” – a lady who sells meat.

When I went to primary school I wanted to become a teacher and when I was a teenager I wanted to become a flight attendant. I also had the dream of doing fulltime youth work.

I surely had many dreams. What do you think…. Which one came true?

I must tell you that the dream of the “Wurstverkäufer” – selling meats, didn’t come true =), but the dream of becoming a teacher, a fulltime youth worker and also a flight attendant. What do they all have in common? Working with people! I am a “people person”: I love to inspire and making a difference in people’s lives. This passion led me to become an international certified life coach with the International Coach Federation (ICF). I inspire women on their journey to move forward in life and career with purpose, helping them find out their true gifts so that they can live out these gifts with authenticity to the fullest capacity in their personal and professional life. This is my passion!

What was your dream as a child? Did some of the dreams come true? If yes, why did they come true? Or if no, why didn’t they come true?

Do you think it’s too late that your dreams can become reality?

I think it’s never too late!!!

You can start NOW pursuing your dream by taking little steps. The most important thing is to start doing something about your dreams. If you need help I can help you on your journey with the first steps! Have a look at http://www.tabeakraska.com

How can I find my core values?

To all my dear followers!

Wishing you all a wonderful new year 2017!

Thanks so much for following me here on this blog…. I was a bit quiet the last year, because started a new blog – on my new website. If you want to have a look: http://www.tabeakraska.com

I would love to hear from you all!

Here is one article I posted there:

values-tabeakraskacoaching

When people talked in the past years about values, I could never really grasp what values really are or how to find out my core values. Over the last years I „studied“ the topic values and understood that values are the foundation of our behavior. Have you ever asked yourself when you see people in different situations: „Why do they act so differently in this situations than I would? Or why are so many people frustrated in their job and would love to find a job they love? I think only when you know yourself and your values you are able to find work that is truly fulfilling.

First of all it is important to find out what your values are.

Values determine many things in your life: choices, attitudes, actions, decision making, work, passions, etc. They define what’s important to you.

Are you happy with your work? If yes, is it because your values align with your work? If no, could it be that your values no longer align with your work?

Values are deeply ingrained in us and often we are not consciously aware of what our values are or how they shape our actions.

It is very important to understand your core values – they are the heart of who you are.

Over the years I made a list of my core values.

But how do I find out my core values?

Think of something that makes you feel angry. When was it when a certain person in your life crossed an important line for you and that wasn’t in line with something you value?

Example: One of my five core values is honesty. When I see dishonesty in families, companies and organisations I get this „uncomfortable feeling“ inside of me and now it is up to me to decide what to do: do I bring it up or do I keep my mouth shut? And because I value honesty I usually open my mouth and bring things up – which is not always easy!

Imagine your value is honesty – can you imagine working or living in an environment where there is constant dishonesty? It will definitely will have an effect on you: mentally, spiritually & physically. So it is up to you to decide what action you take.

For me it is very important to know my core values and also to help my clients to discover their values. This is a powerful way how they can get in touch of who they are.

Here are some questions to discover your deepest values:

  • Where do you invest the best of your time, money and energy? Why?
  • When making important decisions – what are the things you base them on?
  • Imagine some valuable things in your life and ask yourself: „If these things were taken away from me or I couldn’t do them, would that make my life unbearable?
  • What makes you angry when you don’t get it (e.g. if you don’t „get“ honesty)?
  • What are things that you care most deeply about?

For your value discovery it might be helpful to have a list of values to choose from. Ask yourself: Which of these words resonate most with you? Which words represent what you care about most? Try to pick less than 10 and then find out your 5 core values – what is most important for you!

When I tried to find out my core values, it helped me to have a look at different value lists. But because there where so many different lists, I created my own – for me and to help my clients find out their own values. It is just a little help if you don’t come up with words yourself. What is most important in life for you?

colouryourdream, life coaching, purpose, values, important

What is most important in life for you?

If you would list your 5 most important values – which one would you write down? One of my values is for example: “Making a difference in people’s lives” and in my life coaching profession I ask myself this question: “How can I make a difference in women’s lives?” Often I feel overwhelmed and I don’t think that I can make a huge difference in people’s lives. But I read once that if I relieve the suffering of one person today I am making a difference. That means, I don’t need to think: “How can I help the whole world” – this is too overwhelming, but I can think: “How can I make a person happy today, how can I help someone in some way today?”

What do people suffer from? Of course there are a lot of people suffering from serious things and they require some professional help from a counsellor. But I am not talking about this here. I am now talking more about some “pain” you are facing each day on a “value level” – you are aware that you need some change in a few areas of your life, but you don’t know where to start or how to do it. Or you are not fulfilled in your life, you are not passionate about your job or you don’t know what your purpose in life is – in general and specific for you and your unique gifts.

These are just a few “pain points” you might have. The question is: how do you get help? From whom? How do you move forward in answering these questions? Have you given up answering these questions already or do you have fear facing them or are you afraid of change? What stops you from facing the important questions in life?

Whatever it might be: Take action today! How? You could ask a friend or family member to help you or you could look for a coach who will help you by asking the right questions to bring out in you the answers you already have inside yourself. The most important thing is: take action today. And remember: just take one action step at a time.

??? What action could you take this week to find answers to your questions???

??? What are your 5 core values??? How do you live them out every single day???

What’s imortant for 2016

colouryourdream, purpose, life, 2016,vision

Every year at the end of the year or at the beginning of the new year I write what’s important for me in the coming year. So this year I wrote on the 1. January 2016 what I want to remember in 2016, e.g. my top values, some quotes and overall what’s my life’s purpose and how I want to live out my gifts God has blessed me with. It is very challenging but good to reflect and to ponder about questions like: Why do I do things? What for? For whom? What is the purpose?

I realize that I am very different to some people. I think a lot about how I can live a purposeful life, what “counts” in the end – not superficially here in this life, but in eternity. I believe that life on this earth is so short in comparison to eternity. So I want to make sure that I live a purposeful life and not a life others want me or expect me to live. I am very excited about this coming year 2016!

??? What about you? What are you living for? Who “leads” your life???

Do you know your strengths?

life coaching, coaching, colouryourdream,city,photography,strengths,purpose,life

Do you know what your strengths are? How can you discover them? You can find a lot of different websites about how to find out what your strengths are – and some are helpful. But: you also know it yourself what you are good at and how specific activities make you feel: do they energize you or drain you?

What is a strength?

I found a good explanation in this book: „Go put your strengths to work, 6 powerful steps to achieve outstanding performance“ Marcus Buckingham.“

Here I am going to summarize from Page 90:

What does a strength look like?

  • It looks like consistent, near-perfect performance

Which three ingredients combine to create a strength?

  • 1. Talents: Because you are so close to your own talents, they are most effectively measured by personality profiles such as the Clifton StrengthsFinder, Myers-Briggs, and the Kolbe Conative Index. Talents are innate.
  • 2. Skills: Skills are learned.
  • 3. Knowledge: Knowledge is learned.

What does one of your strengths actually feel like to you?

  • When you do it, you feel effective – the S of SIGN (if you read further I explain SIGN)
  • Before you do it, you actively look forward to it – the I of SIGN
  • While you are doing it, you feel inquisite and focused – the G of SIGN
  • After you’ve done it, you feel fulfilled and authentic – the N of SIGN.

If you want to identify your own strengths, „pay close attention to how specific activities make you feel. Your feelings reveal your strengths.“ (P.90)

You can look for signs. The book explains four signs of a strength.

I will summarize the four sings of a strengths (Page 76-116).

SIGNs (S= Success, I= Instinct, G= Growth, N= Needs)

You can pick a strength that you think you have, e.g. you are good at presenting a topic to a group of people, you empathize with people, you are good at communicating, etc.

Now rate on a scale from 1-5 if you agree or disagree to following statements (1= strongly disagree, 5= strongly agree)

S (= Sucess)

  1. I have been tremendously successful at this type of activity
  2. Other people often tell me I have a gift for this type of activity
  3. I have been given prizes or recognition for doing this type of activity

I (= Instict)

  1. I do this type of activity every day
  2. I often find myself volunteering for this type of activity
  3. This type of activity is a „gut reaction“ to me

G (= Growth)

  1. I pick up this type of activity quickly
  2. I find myself thinking about this type of acivity every day
  3. I can’t wait to learn new techniques for doing this activity

N (= Needs)

  1. I always look forward to doing this type of activity
  2. It’s fun for me to think back to when I was doing this type of activity
  3. Doing this type of activity is one of my greatest personal satisfactions

Scores:

53 and above: a true strength

46-52: it depends which questions brought down the score. If you rated the first 3 questions low, while the I, G, and N questions got high marks, it is a sign that this is indeed a strength but one that you have yet to apply affectively. Stay focused on this activity, discipline yourself to seek out the necessary skills and knowledge, keep practicing, and quite soon you should see your performance start to get attention.

If your answers to question 4 through twelve pulled down the score, then the chances are that it is not a strength. It lacks the urgency and the extreme positive reactions so characteristic of a strength.

46 and below: it is highly unlikely to be a strength.

??? What is one of your strengths??? What energizes you??? How did you discover that it is your strength? What do your closest friends say what your strengths are???

Book: „Go put your strengths to work, 6 powerful steps to achieve outstanding performance“ Marcus Buckingham.
