How can I find my passion?

tabea-kraska-coaching-passion

What’s my passion? What do I love doing? What am I good at? How can I find my passion in life?

Think back for a minute when you were a child or teenager. What dreams did you have? What desires did you have, what wishes? Did you want to be a teacher, a doctor, an artist, a nurse, a craftsman, a fireman, a ………..?

Maybe you can’t remember? Then ask someone who grew up with you and knows you well. What did you like doing or what were you good at?

Can you imagine what my dream was when I was a child?

At a young age I was very impressed with the lady at the shop selling different kind of meats and sausages. When my mum went shopping she sometimes bought “Gelbwurst” (a special German cold meat “cut up” which you put on your bread).

I loved standing besides my mum looking at the lady how she cut the meat and how she weighed it and put it into the bag. And most of the time she gave me a little piece of “Gelbwurst” to eat. That was the highlight of the shopping experience and I wanted to become a “Wurstverkäufer” – a lady who sells meat.

When I went to primary school I wanted to become a teacher and when I was a teenager I wanted to become a flight attendant. I also had the dream of doing fulltime youth work.

I surely had many dreams. What do you think…. Which one came true?

I must tell you that the dream of the “Wurstverkäufer” – selling meats, didn’t come true =), but the dream of becoming a teacher, a fulltime youth worker and also a flight attendant. What do they all have in common? Working with people! I am a “people person”: I love to inspire and making a difference in people’s lives. This passion led me to become an international certified life coach with the International Coach Federation (ICF). I inspire women on their journey to move forward in life and career with purpose, helping them find out their true gifts so that they can live out these gifts with authenticity to the fullest capacity in their personal and professional life. This is my passion!

What was your dream as a child? Did some of the dreams come true? If yes, why did they come true? Or if no, why didn’t they come true?

Do you think it’s too late that your dreams can become reality?

I think it’s never too late!!!

You can start NOW pursuing your dream by taking little steps. The most important thing is to start doing something about your dreams. If you need help I can help you on your journey with the first steps! Have a look at http://www.tabeakraska.com

It is never too late to start something!

Do you know your strengths?

life coaching, coaching, colouryourdream,city,photography,strengths,purpose,life

Do you know what your strengths are? How can you discover them? You can find a lot of different websites about how to find out what your strengths are – and some are helpful. But: you also know it yourself what you are good at and how specific activities make you feel: do they energize you or drain you?

What is a strength?

I found a good explanation in this book: „Go put your strengths to work, 6 powerful steps to achieve outstanding performance“ Marcus Buckingham.“

Here I am going to summarize from Page 90:

What does a strength look like?

  • It looks like consistent, near-perfect performance

Which three ingredients combine to create a strength?

  • 1. Talents: Because you are so close to your own talents, they are most effectively measured by personality profiles such as the Clifton StrengthsFinder, Myers-Briggs, and the Kolbe Conative Index. Talents are innate.
  • 2. Skills: Skills are learned.
  • 3. Knowledge: Knowledge is learned.

What does one of your strengths actually feel like to you?

  • When you do it, you feel effective – the S of SIGN (if you read further I explain SIGN)
  • Before you do it, you actively look forward to it – the I of SIGN
  • While you are doing it, you feel inquisite and focused – the G of SIGN
  • After you’ve done it, you feel fulfilled and authentic – the N of SIGN.

If you want to identify your own strengths, „pay close attention to how specific activities make you feel. Your feelings reveal your strengths.“ (P.90)

You can look for signs. The book explains four signs of a strength.

I will summarize the four sings of a strengths (Page 76-116).

SIGNs (S= Success, I= Instinct, G= Growth, N= Needs)

You can pick a strength that you think you have, e.g. you are good at presenting a topic to a group of people, you empathize with people, you are good at communicating, etc.

Now rate on a scale from 1-5 if you agree or disagree to following statements (1= strongly disagree, 5= strongly agree)

S (= Sucess)

  1. I have been tremendously successful at this type of activity
  2. Other people often tell me I have a gift for this type of activity
  3. I have been given prizes or recognition for doing this type of activity

I (= Instict)

  1. I do this type of activity every day
  2. I often find myself volunteering for this type of activity
  3. This type of activity is a „gut reaction“ to me

G (= Growth)

  1. I pick up this type of activity quickly
  2. I find myself thinking about this type of acivity every day
  3. I can’t wait to learn new techniques for doing this activity

N (= Needs)

  1. I always look forward to doing this type of activity
  2. It’s fun for me to think back to when I was doing this type of activity
  3. Doing this type of activity is one of my greatest personal satisfactions

Scores:

53 and above: a true strength

46-52: it depends which questions brought down the score. If you rated the first 3 questions low, while the I, G, and N questions got high marks, it is a sign that this is indeed a strength but one that you have yet to apply affectively. Stay focused on this activity, discipline yourself to seek out the necessary skills and knowledge, keep practicing, and quite soon you should see your performance start to get attention.

If your answers to question 4 through twelve pulled down the score, then the chances are that it is not a strength. It lacks the urgency and the extreme positive reactions so characteristic of a strength.

46 and below: it is highly unlikely to be a strength.

??? What is one of your strengths??? What energizes you??? How did you discover that it is your strength? What do your closest friends say what your strengths are???

Resolutions for 2015? How do you succeed? Why do you fail?

life coaching, colouryourdream, coaching, life, purpose, goal, 2015

One of my resolutions this year is to read through the Bible in one year. I do this with an APP (BiOY), where Nicky Gumbel (a Vicar from England) puts readings together from the Old and New Testament and then he writes a very good (in my opinion) explanation about these chapters and how we can apply them in our daily life.

January 1 he wrote: “ I belong to a squash club that is also a gym. Each year on 1 January they bring in extra gym equipment. The place is packed out. By about 7 January, they move out all the extra equipment as most people have given up their New Year’s resolution and the club returns to normal!” *

Today is the 7th January. Have you already given up on your New Year’s resolution? Or don’t you even bother making a resolution, because it never works?

Why do you give up and why does nothing really changes – even if you want it so badly?

Dr. W. Edwards Deming says: “Nothing changes without personal transformation.”

I guess this is the key!

Most people’s tendency is to try and manipulate their environment, e.g. they change jobs, friends, spouses… But the real answer is not the external, but the internal. Personal transformation will lead to a transformation in other areas of your life.

Some people are not intentional in their personal development and that is why they grow very little. The people who focus on personal development grow rapidly, e.g. socially, in their marriage, in character, spiritually, in their physical fitness and health, in service to others…

That’s why I love coaching so much, it focuses on the present and the future. Through the coaching process the client is able to see more clarity. It is like having on glasses, seing a clear picture, whereas before it was very blurry.

Often I find it hard to focus, because I have so many thoughts and ideas in my head and I don’t know sometimes how to bundle them. In our world there are so much “noises” and impressions around us that it is hard to focus on the things that are (most) important to us.

A life coach helps to focus. I experience this with my life coach. Sometimes I think I don’t really have anything to talk about, but after the coaching session I feel encouraged and I have specific action steps to do, which I wouldnt have really focused on one hour by myself. And my coach keeps me accountable which I find very helpful!

A coach focuses on potential, he sees peoples abilities for what they are at this moment and what they can become. People are always changing – but not always developing. To develop means to increase in understanding, skill or character.

Are you intentional in your personal development? How did you develop personally in the last year? How could you develop (more) in 2015?

Do you know people who expanded a lot in their professional life, but not in their personal life? Some people take on a lot of responsibilities in their professional life and learn and grow, but in their personal development they limp.

A lack of holistic development in one area of life can negatively effect other more developed areas of a person’s life, e.g. lack of character development – especially people in their 30’s (or 40’s), when they have a lot of responsibilities in their professional life. Have you seen leaders “crash”, because their personal, spiritual and character foundation couldn’t support their expanded professional responsibilities?

(summary Keith E.Webb: Core Coaching Skills).

As a life coach I ask my clients mainly questions. And through these questions they reflect, think critical, think creative, think in different directions, make decisions.

Have you noticed that when you make a decision out of “yourself” and this decision is not forced unto you – you are most likely to do it? That is how coaching works: it draws out what is in the client – the client has the answer! The coach only helps to draw out what is inside the client already.

The coaching process is focused on discovery. The client discovers with the help of the coach: new self-awareness, insights, ideas, learning, attitudes, facts, realizations…

After this discovery what happens next? If the process would stop here it would have been only a nice conversation with not much change.

Without action there is no change. Now comes the action!

(summary Keith E.Webb: Core Coaching Skills).

Example: if you make a new years resolution that you want to loose weight and you don’t put this into action (e.g. exercising, eating healthy), nothing will change – it only stays a wish, but there will be no change. Also if you don’t explore the “WHY” probably nothing changes or only for a short period of time. Ask yourself: Why do you want to loose weight and what benefits will it have?

Without asking the question why and then taking action steps you will probably fall back into bad habits and you will give up your resolution of loosing weight.

Nothing changes without personal transformation.” (Dr. W. Edwards Deming)

??? What are your thoughts on personal transformation??? How do you put into action what you discovered, what you want to do or what you want to become??? Who helps you with personal transformation??? How do you know that you grow personally (e.g. in character)???

What is your plan for 2015? Do you need help for reaching your goals?

colouryourdream,life coaching,coaching,life,goal,dream,purpose

I wish you all a happy and very productive new year 2015. I hope your new year started very good – mine did!

1st of January I sat down and wrote down some of my goals for 2015 and what is important for me to remember each day/ each week.

So far I have been pretty good with my „achievements“ and I hope that I can maintain this positive energy and determination.

I made a creative „collage“ for 2015 (I do this every year since a few years) and I put it on my desk, where I can see it every day: what’s important for me in 2015, what do I want to remember each day! What are my goals?

At the same time I know that achievements are not the most important thing for me in my life. More important for me is what I become!

One quote I put on my collage is: „The most important thing in your life is not what you do – it’s who you become.“ Dallas Willard

This following quote speaks about this as well and I find it very good and challenging:

For everything you want in life, there is a price you must pay, in full and in advance. Decide what you really want and then determine the price you’ll have to pay to achieve it. Remember, to achieve something you’ve never achieved before – you must do something you have never done before. You must become someone who you have never been before. Whatever you want you’ll have to pay a price measured in terms of: sacrifice, time, effort and personal discipline. Decide what it is and start paying that price today.“ Brian Tracy

How can you reach your goals in 2015? By yourself or with the help of someone?

I am happy that I have help and encouragement in reaching my goals: a life coach.

I am a trained life coach but I also have my „own“ life coach who draws out the best in me and who helps me to reach my goals. My coach comes from Europe and it is a great thing that we can do our coaching sessions on skype. Some people think it’s weird on skype, but when they try it out some like it even better than in person =)

I am very happy that I am a life coach (this was my dream and goal for many many years and since a few years I coach people in different continents) and that I am able to help and inspire people to maximize their personal and professional potential.

The year 2014 was very encouraging for me and my clients. They gave me feedback that I helped them see „more clearly“ and that they never would have been there where they are now without the coaching (personal and professional).

I really love being a life coach and my passion is:

– to see people become that which they were meant to be, by encouraging them to use their unique gifts, act on their strengths, and discover the courage to facilitate their journey of personal growth.

How did you experience the last year? Did you reach your goals which you set in the beginning of 2014? If yes: great! Congratulations! If not: what do you think – why didn’t you reach them? What help would have been needed for you?

Are you determined to reach your goals in 2015?

How do you approach it?

Who can help you?

I am happy to coach you (in person or on skype) and help you realize and achieve your goals and dreams.

If you (or your friends) are interested Email me: colouryourdream@web.de

Wishing you a wonderful, blessed and worthwile year 2015 and that you “become someone that you have never been before.“

… to achieve something you’ve never achieved before – you must do something you have never done before. You must become someone who you have never been before. -Brian Tracy

??? What do you want to achieve this year? What did you never do before???

What kind of person do you have (want) to become??? What price do you have to pay???

Our emotions

Life coaching,colouryourdream, purpose,life,photography,landscape,australia, beach

When we negate, deny, or disown our emotions we might find ourselves blowing up or ‘going off’ on others with little or no provocation. We can only repress our feelings for so long. Eventually, they will demand to be heard. When we pay attention to our emotions and not judge them as irrational and therefore unacceptable, we can begin to receive the gift of insight that our feelings offer.“

??? Do you have any expriences with this – with yourself or others???

(Quote from: Jeanine Austin)
