Timing…

Lately I am very busy, and I only post very short posts, but in a few months I try to do it more frequently again.

I read a quote lately which is very helpful for me:

“When dealing with people and their emotions, timing really is everything. You don’t ask for a favor when someone is angry or correct someone who feels threatened by you. To practice your timing with others, ask the right questions at the right time with the right frame of mind, all with your audience in mind.” (Strategy #35,in the book: Emotional Intelligence 2.0, )

I guess I have to learn a lot finding the right timing when to talk and to be silent when it it not the right timing yet to talk!

It would be interesting to know what you think about this quote and how you deal or dealt with it so far!?

  1. so true … I think timing has much to do with communicating well … Maybe timing is closely related to self control and the ability to keep the tongue controlled until a better time 🙂 … I have such a long way to go!

  2. This is true and I hadn’t thought of it like that – it would solve some relationship communication issues instantly, at work as well as friendships. So often we need to ask in the moment – in this instant access world we consume our lives in, often it is not the right time.

Funny because as children I think most of us are aware that if you want something from a parent you wait until the right time, the optimum moment – why should real life be any different?
I will bear this in mind!

  3. The book, Emotional Intelligence, sounds fantastic – like something I needed earlier in my life. It would have saved me much heartache!

I’d have to agree with you, timing is crucial…not as a means of manipulation, but out of consideration for the other person…treat them like I’d want to be treated.

    Thanks for sharing!
